2 years a knitter…
I first picked up a pair of knitting needles exactly two years ago today. I know this not because I have the date romantically emblazoned on my mind, but because I happened to notice the upload date of this, my very first knitted square, which I for some reason undertook to do in moss stitch rather than garter stitch or stockinette, because I am awkward like that.

Very first knitting. Flawed, but green.
At some point within the next few days I managed to get hold of Debbie Stoller’s ‘Stitch n’ Bitch Nation book and within ten days of my first too-tight cast-on and slow alternating knit, purl, knit, purl of my tiny moss stitch square I had acquired some DPNs, some green and pink yarn, and tumbled wholeheartedly into my very first full project. Not the ubiquitous garter stitch scarf of row upon row of knit-stitch perfecting practice, but, for some now lost reason, a pair of ”Later Gator” mitts, which actually became a pair of snake mittens:

Snake Mittens. No, sorry, I mean sssssssssnake mittens, obviously.
Sure, they are flawed in their execution, but I loved them so much that I wore them that whole winter, even though because I had made them from cotton and not wool they weren’t that warm in the cold Lancastrian February weather. Maybe if my first real project had not been, in my eyes, such a bounding success, I might not have bothered pursuing knitting as a pastime, but as I gained so much joy from wearing the mittens to delight the young children of bored looking mothers on buses with impromptu hand puppet shows, I started to look for more and more small, fun projects to knit and so was born a new knitter, 2 years old today.

Hahahahaha!
Happy birthday to me!
